Deathjuice Rat Rod Customs: The Side-by-Side Saga. Part 5 of 43

Things slowed down a little this week. We had to throw the wrenches down and head out of town for a funeral. A family friend who went out in the most brutal way possible: choked on a hotdog. Heavy stuff, RIP.

Back in the shop, the build keeps fighting us. The wheels roll fine, but the tire has popped off a couple times. Running higher pressures on these tired old rims? Nah. Doesn’t cut it. We tried, we failed, lesson learned.

But the hub from China showed up. Time to dive in and update the rear wheels: all new hubs, shiny SE Racing polished rims. Does this mean we’ll be out ripping with the Wildman himself, Todd Lyons, the madman behind SE? Probably not. But just bolting this stuff on feels like a nod in his direction.

The Mallet stem landed too, and it’s perfect. Brings that old-school BMX flavor to the front end. The 20″ wheels give it such a bike-like stance I caught myself wondering—does this count as a sidehack? Could we actually line up and race BMX on it? Probably not, but if we did, we’d at least go semi-viral for the crashes.

Seating is still a saga. The Dremel’s been chewing through Li-ion batteries as I carve… something. Not sure what yet. But while wandering in Salt Lake, I spotted a Beetlejuice skateboard at Remedy Tattoo Studio (Murray). Had a killer vibe. Could sneak into the final design somehow—because why not?

When we get back from California, the new wheels should be ready. A little touch of #SEBikelife grafted onto this mutant side-by-side. The project rolls on.
